Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Teams with Microsoft Dynamics 365 at no additional cost

We’re activating the flow of work in Microsoft Teams with Microsoft Dynamics 365 at no additional cost.
  • With Dynamics 365 and Teams, we’re speeding up the flow of work, enabling anyone in an organization to view and collaborate on Dynamics 365 records, from within the flow of work with Teams—at no additional cost.
  • No other technology vendor enables organizations to activate this capability without the need to pay for multiple underlying software licenses.
  • Think about the incredible potential when you activate the flow of work with Dynamics 365 in Teams:
    • A service engineer can enable an agent to fix a customer’s issue by adding notes with troubleshooting steps to the customer service case record.
    • Finance teams can streamline order fulfillment, sharing purchase orders and payment details with their counterparts in sales.
    • A field technician can notify sales teams about products nearing end-of-life, so the sales team can proactively reach out with replacement options.
    • And a sales team can close deals faster, by understanding signals from the marketing department around demand generation.
Learn more about this announcement on Microsoft 365 blog.

Dynamics 365 | Usability & Productivity | Advanced lookup experience in model-driven Power Apps

Lookups are a core component of model-driven apps, as they help bring underlying data relationships in Microsoft Dataverse to life.

Today, we are announcing advanced lookup – a set of usability enhancements to help you explore and find that data easily, so you are more productive with data entry tasks.

What value does it bring to business users?
  • This is a set of usability enhancements to help explore and find data easily.
  • Enabled Advanced lookup is available on any lookup column that's on a quick create form, edit form, or dialog box.
  • Advanced lookup supports customizations on lookup control through Client APIs such as addCustomView, addCustomFilter, addPreSearch and removePreSearch.
Advanced Lookups experience | Some of these enhancements include:
  • Viewing more columns when looking up a record.
  • Seeing results quickly with typeahead search.
  • Exploring data within advanced lookup without losing context.
  • Easily applying data filters.
  • Looking up multiple records in fewer clicks.
How to enable the feature
Full feature description can be found on this page of Power Apps blog.

Power Apps | Multi-table lookups now available | Preview
  • Multi-table lookups, a long awaited and much requested feature, are now live (Preview) for use via API.
  • Multi-table lookups (also sometimes known as polymorphic lookups) allow the creation of a lookup in one table that looks up records in multiple other tables at once. This provides much greater flexibility in retrieving data within your environments.
Illustration:
  • Imagine you are trying to create a lookup that lets you check out media to users.
  • You have a table of Books, a table of Audio offerings, and a table of Video offerings.
  • Prior to this, there was no easy way to create a lookup that would pull data from all three tables at once, and you may end up with three separate lookups:
    • Checkout-> Books
    • Checkout-> Audio
    • Checkout-> Video
  • With multi-table lookups, you can perform a lookup on 2 or more tables at the same time and locate the record you want from the referenced tables.
  • These lookups are all 1 to many relationships and will work in a similar way as the Customer lookup that is built into Dataverse, where Customer look ups search both Account and Contact.
  • Using these multi-table lookups can reduce development time for your apps and provide a more streamlined user interface.
  • For the current preview:
    • Lookups can be constructed and managed through API only
    • Model driven apps currently provide the best experience with the lookups
    • Maker UI support for creation and management is coming soon, and improved canvas app support is planned for the future.
To learn more about multi-table lookups please see the following document:

Use multi-table lookup columns (Microsoft Dataverse) – Power Apps | Microsoft Docs

Power Apps | Custom Pages for converging model-driven apps and canvas apps | Public Preview

We are happy to announce the public preview of Custom Pages as mentioned in Better together: introducing Custom Pages and the Modern App Designer.
  • This is a big leap forward in the convergence of model-driven apps and canvas apps into a single Power App.
  • This does not change the support for the stand alone canvas app but enables the new Power App converging model and canvas.
  • A custom page can be used in places where all pages are supported including main area, dialogs, and the new app side pane.
  • This allows scenarios like a pixel perfect landing page with data pulled from across the organization, data driven pages that use a record’s data to change the experience, dialog designed to optimize specific business actions, and productivity tools that support the main tasks for the app.
To learn more on usage, check out this page on Power Apps blog.

Power Apps | Announcing Command Designer with Power Fx | Preview

For the first time ever you can customize command bars in model-driven apps without code!
  • These new capabilities play a major role in the convergence of canvas and model-driven apps (just announced above).
  • Introducing the first ever command designer – complete with Power Fx for expressing powerful low-code logic in model-driven apps.
  • These new capabilities are a complete re-imagination of commanding (formerly known as the “Ribbon”) for model-driven apps.
  • It’s built on a new, modern infrastructure that’s conducive to both model-driven and canvas app technologies and will scale into the future.

Power Apps Portal: How a Customer Engineer can help

Learning corner
  • There has been renewed interest in the portal and an uptick in portals deployments.
  • To support this, our Customer Engineer team has a team of Power Apps portal experts that have been aligned to working with Enterprise-grade portal deployments since their inception.
  • If you are considering implementing a portal, are mid-implementation, or are live, check out here how Microsoft can help you with service delivery, training and guidance through that journey.
I want to implement a Power Apps portal but my implementation team and/or administrators need training.
  • Portal 1 Day: Hands on technical workshop to teach you how to set up a new portal, configure its content, configure security, administer, and migrate.
I am considering a Power Apps portal but need a Proof of Concept to validate that this will work for my organization.
  • Portal Activate: 5-Day engagement that includes the Portal 1 Day followed by 4-days of working with a Customer Engineer on developing a custom proof-of-concept in your organization's tenant for your specific business process.
I am going live with a portal but need load testing.
  • Dynamics 365 Benchmark Assessment: A Customer Engineer will test how increased user load and/or additional functionality will affect performance and scalability and provide mitigation recommendations.
I want to discuss best practices as relates to Power Apps portal or development.

I am technically blocked by x and need to discuss an approach that aligns with best practices.

I have x specific use-case and need to understand if a Power Apps portal would make sense here.

I have other specific needs around removing or understanding a technical blockers or design/implementation considerations
