The thing that strikes me at once is of course the new user interface which looks very nice, but that isn’t really important….or is it? I would actually say that it is VERY important. The way Microsoft think when it comes to setting up role-centers, how they organize buttons and how the UI is structured is one of the key features of Dynamics Ax 2009. I know that a lot of you will disagree, but be honest here… have you NEVER helped someone finding a report or form? And have you never had to explain and visualize for the end-user in order for him/her to understand how things work? Using breadcrumb bar, travel buttons and address bar makes it a lot easier to see where you are and where you have been and easily go back to the previous forms.
The question is; is the new UI perfect? Not by far, but a lot better than DAX 4.0.
I don’t like the area pages because it’s sort of a navigation page and that might confuse more than it helps as users will be more used to the navigation pane (default at the left side og the screen).
I have found that the UI need some time to get used to. I was a bit confused in the beginning by the Places-forms as they are called the same as Details-forms. Like the place Sales Orders where you can view sales orders and add new sales orders, but you are unable to edit them and add/edit/delete sales lines because the sales lines are shown in a preview pane in the Sales Orders places. To be able to do that, you have to go to the details form Sales Orders.

Off course, another great feature in Dynamics Ax 2009 is the role centers.
They depend on Enterprise Portal to be installed and running (which means a slightly higher cost in licenses) and they use SharePoint or MOSS web parts.
