Yesterday an announcement was released on PartnerSource to announce the discontinuation of Oracle Database Support for Dynamics AX 2012, the link to the article can be found here. There is also an FAQ document available in the link which covers the following benefits of switching to Microsoft SQL Server.

The document also references the migration tool available and defines the migration/upgrade route they need to take, when upgrading from AX3 Oracle to AX2012 MSSQL Server. It is a 3 stage process, upgrading first to AX2009, then migrating to Microsoft SQL Server and finally upgrading to AX2012, so no small task!

Many of you may know the Oracle to SQL Migration tool is already available on PartnerSource. The Data Migration Assistant supports the following versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX: Microsoft Axapta 3.0, Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, and 2009.

In addition there are 2 case studies available on Microsoft.com of customers who have already used the migration tool to switch from Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server.
